Cengiz TANRIGÜL GENEL MÜDÜR
Hür Çelik is a company that only imports materials that are not produced in Turkey and is aware of the importance of domestic production... Hür Çelik, which prioritises quality with its imports and does not import poor quality materials, plays a role in the development of our country's industry.
Mr Cengiz, can we get to know you briefly?
I was born in 1974. I have been in the iron and steel sector for as long as I can remember. In 1990, I started to take an active role in our family company. In these years, our company was trading on angle iron, pipe and profile. In 1996, we decided to enter the quality steel sector. More precisely, our customers directed us to this sector. Since this date, our company continues to grow with confident steps and expand its vision.
Hür Çelik serves its customers with a wide range of products. Could you tell us about your product range and services?
As Hür Çelik A.Ş., we currently have domestic steel between 19-250 mm in quality steel in our product portfolio. In our domestic steel product portfolio between 260-200 mm in a short time; There are imported materials up to 300-1.000 mm, domestic materials from Square 100 * 100 mm to Square 500 * 500 mm, domestic materials up to Platina Lama 200 * 30-550 * 150 mm. We continue to offer solutions to the needs of our customers in groups such as Reclamation Steel, Carburised Steel, Carbon Steels, Micro alloy steels etc.
Which criteria do you consider when importing?
As Hür Çelik A.Ş., when importing, we pay attention to the fact that the goods we import are not produced in Turkey. If that material is produced in Turkey, we cannot import it because we are a nationalist company in this regard. We primarily support the development of our country's industry. We prioritise quality in our imports and do not import poor quality materials.
If we talk about your customer portfolio; to whom and to which sectors do you mostly sell products?
As Hür Çelik A.Ş., we provide services to automotive, machinery, agriculture, aviation, defence industry, mining etc. sectors. We keep the needs of these sectors containing high quality raw materials in our stocks and realise their shipments in the fastest way.
development. We prioritise quality in our imports and do not import poor quality materials.
There is a fierce competitive environment in your sector. What would you like to say about the sales policies followed by rival companies and the quality of the products in the market?
There is a destructive competitive environment in our sector. The main reason for this is that some companies in the sector do not have sufficient equity capital, meet this equity capital need by using foreign resources, and sell almost unprofitable materials due to turnover and sales pressure due to the high indebtedness caused by this. As I mentioned, companies acting under sales pressure bring cheap and poor quality materials from abroad, especially from China, to the market and sell them. This leads to a decrease in quality in the market, a decrease in the competitiveness of domestic producers and losses. For all these reasons, companies in the sector have had difficulty in growing for the last five years.
. we provide service to the sectors. We keep the needs of these sectors containing high quality raw materials in our stocks and realise their shipments in the fastest way.
development. We prioritise quality in our imports and do not import poor quality materials.
How was the first half of 2016 for your company? What are your predictions for the end of the year?
Regarding the first half of 2016, we minimised our targets in a controlled manner so as not to be below the previous year in line with the unfavourable conditions that emerged in the sector at the end of 2015. However, the first half of 2016 was much higher than our estimates. We think that both the changes in the import regime made by our government and the investments to improve the capacity and capabilities of domestic producers have played an important role here.
Could you share with us the projects you want to realise in the short and long term?
Hür Çelik A.Ş. operates on a closed area of 6.000 m² and a total area of 20.000 m². We are increasing our closed area to 12.000 m² with our new warehouse, which is currently under construction. With this new warehouse, we have decided to produce bright steel that the sector needs. For this reason, negotiations are being held regarding the purchase of the necessary machinery and equipment and we plan to put it into operation in the first and second quarters of next year.
